Why do I get an error message when I enter comments on a time off request in Campus Time & Attendance?

The error message below is displayed when comments exceed 250 characters.
This is a system defect and has been reported to the vendor. Time off request comments cannot exceed 250 characters. The limit of 256 displayed below the comment box is incorrect at this time.
